Important limits on independent permit information and the decisions that must remain with government authorities and qualified professionals.

01

Independent information service

Permit Answers is privately operated and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any city, county, state, federal agency, code body, permit office, or inspection authority. Government names, marks, and links are used to identify the source or authority responsible for a requirement.

We cannot issue, approve, deny, modify, extend, or close a permit. We cannot schedule an official inspection, waive a fee, bind a department, or speak for a code official.

02

General information, not a project determination

Permit Answers content is general educational and navigational information. It is written for the jurisdiction, project, property type, and conditions stated on the page. It is not a plan review, permit determination, code interpretation issued by an authority, or confirmation that a particular property is eligible for an exemption.

A conclusion described as usually required, usually exempt, or dependent on conditions is a scoped summary. Facts not described on the page can change the result.

03

No legal or professional advice

The service does not provide legal, architectural, engineering, surveying, planning, environmental, tax, insurance, safety, or contracting advice. Use of the site does not create an attorney-client, architect-client, engineer-client, contractor-client, fiduciary, or other professional relationship.

Consult an appropriately licensed professional when the project, law, contract, structural condition, life-safety issue, title, boundary, or code question requires professional judgment.

04

Facts that can change the answer

Permit requirements may depend on exact location, city limits, zoning district, overlays, landmark or historic status, flood or wildfire areas, building use, occupancy, construction type, project valuation, dimensions, structural work, utilities, prior unpermitted work, and the adopted code in effect when an application is submitted.

A mailing address, contractor estimate, prior owner's permit, neighboring project, or earlier approval does not establish the current requirement for another property.

05

Official decisions and records control

The responsible authority's current laws, written interpretations, official records, application requirements, review comments, and issued permit conditions control over a Permit Answers summary. If a source link and our wording differ, follow the official source and report the discrepancy.

Only the authority can decide how its requirements apply to a submitted project. Some decisions require plan review or an inspection and cannot be determined from a public webpage.

06

Currentness and availability

We work to keep published guidance current, but government requirements and online systems can change without notice. A last-verified date records our review; it does not guarantee that no later change has occurred.

The service, a source link, or an official portal may be unavailable, incomplete, delayed, or affected by human or technical error. Time-sensitive applicants should confirm deadlines and requirements directly with the authority.

07

Third-party websites and services

Links to government portals, mapping systems, code publishers, contractors, or other websites are provided for navigation. Those services are controlled by their operators and have their own terms, privacy practices, accessibility, security, and availability.

A link does not mean Permit Answers controls, warrants, endorses, or accepts responsibility for the linked service. Verify the destination and authority before entering personal information, uploading plans, or making a payment.

08

Contractors, products, and commercial content

Any future advertisement, sponsored placement, contractor listing, referral, or affiliate link will be commercial content, not a government recommendation or permit approval. Payment cannot change a permit conclusion or make a provider qualified for a specific project.

Users are responsible for checking licenses, insurance, references, contracts, pricing, and suitability before hiring a provider or purchasing a product or service.

09

No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the service and content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of accuracy, completeness, currentness, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, or error-free availability.

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes a warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded. Additional terms governing use of the service appear in the Terms of use.

10

Urgent and active matters

Permit Answers is not an emergency, inspection, legal, or code-enforcement communication channel. For an unsafe condition, utility emergency, stop-work order, active enforcement matter, failed inspection, or filing deadline, contact the appropriate authority or emergency service directly.

Sending us a correction or contact email does not notify a government agency, preserve a deadline, appeal a decision, or create an official record.
